Gender Swap Question Reveals Harsh Reality Of Being A Woman
An online media group posted a question about waking up the opposite sex
An African news outlet often posts questions on social media to engage people to respond, well the first question of the first day of the new year was, “You wake up as the opposite sex tomorrow, first thing you would do?” Pulse Kenya asked Kenyans “Wewe utafanya nini”? In the comments men & women reacted to what they’d do.
I have seen this question asked & answered many times in America as well however the reply that was so often repeated among the Kenyan men was to “Kill myself/ commit suicide/ go back to sleep”. Many wrote that woman were treated so poorly. One man wrote this, “women have it so hard then they have to deal with men constantly calling after them every where they go I would just go back to bed and pray that tomorrow I would awake a man again”.
Another man said he would, “Quickly go to the washroom to make sure that I was not bleeding down there”! Aside from the many comments about ending their lives men also said that they would never ask for money from a man. Work hard to make their parents proud of them on their own. Some even said that they would avoid men at all cost as well. This reveals the sad harsh reality of life for women, not just all women but life for women living in African countries. At one time education in Kenya wasn’t allowed for girls, in many African countries girls must shave their hair to attend schools that aren’t private.
Many can’t afford private school fees, some countries don’t have free public education as well either. The cutting of the hair has been given many reasons yet the reasons don’t fly when one compares them to countries that are in Africa that don’t require girls to shave their heads or the ones outside that don’t require it as well. The difficulty securing employment for women & girls that are pulled from schooling to work or do chores at home.
There is also an increasingly high number of teenaged pregnancies, there was also a news outlet that slammed unwed mothers so badly with the headline that many men in the comments took aim. One man saying why are you being so harsh on women as if they have made these babies on their own & decided to be unwed…
