I watched the situation unfold with bated breath, I prepared to awake early for the 6:30 am (Ghana time), which is 4 hours ahead of my time. I read about the upcoming protest, today was the holiday for Kwame Nkrumah Ghana’s first president, which they call his Memorial Day.
This is why they planned this holiday for demos as they call them in Ghana. There was more than one today. In another area Ghanians were protesting the embarrassing and deplorable roads in the country. In Accra they were planning to march to the Jubilee House, which in Ga language translates to Julorbi. This is the social media tag used #OccupyJulorbiHouse
In this above photo the very top right, you can see where police are beating a Ghanian man, several of them are. On the bottom right is where he was in the mist of others when they dragged him behind the gate. There is a video, the people are loud and all talking when the police grab this one man and beat him. The photo I have of the man’s face is missing from Twitter.
The man in the center of the photo is the husband of one of the protestors, she wanted to be called that because she was with them. She can be seen in the red shirt of he Tweet above.
However she is a Ghanian media personality, her husband rushed to the scene when he heard that his wife’s shirt was ripped by the police officers.
There is video of one group just arriving, then being met by police and immediately arrested. The police file some order to stop the protest but only the very night before posted it on social media of all places.
